Just an update on my blog traffic. 10 visitors people, 10. Legit excitement, it pumps through my veins. Plus I now have 22 followers, sure not many to some but I’m pretty happy :)
My blog started out with a direct subject matter which was animation. After a while of unsuccessful blogging I decided to change the direction of my blog to more of a general interest blog. Basically posting pictures, audio, and video of anything that I stumble upon during my daily internet trolling that takes my fancy. This seemed to work better for me and within a day I gained a handful more followers with blogs similar to my own. Which was great for getting into the tumblr world as well as great for re-blogging purposes. I like the more personal feel my blog has now and would definitely think about doing more text posts to increase that feel. I still like to incorporate some animation related things to that as animation is definitely an interest of mine, so starting the blog out as an animation driven one wasn’t a waste.
As I said with my audience at first it was quite dismal, but when I changed the look of my blog and found some like-minded blogs to follow my audience numbers and responses improved. I certainly have discovered the importance of tagging. Many of the videos I have tagged have been re-blogged a fair bit all thanks to tagging and from people who didn’t even know about my blog. It’s also a great way to find things that you want to post on your blog. And a great way to find these like-minded bloggers. Some of my most popular post are all thanks to tagging. Lesson: tagging works.
I think tools like feed burner, twitter, facebook, and any of those other social networking sites or connectivity sites are great ways to get more traffic to your blog, and reach out to those who have similar interests to you. Whether it be posting a status or using facebook as a feed so as to promote your tumblr. Also a good way to find other peoples blogs and connecting with people around you.
I’ve really enjoyed how we’ve explored a wide range of things we can do with our tumblr blogs. Showing us that it’s not just a place to post some pictures. Each week learning a new tool has been great, not only for using tumblr but for general internet usage too.
One thing that I was completely new to was HTML and CSS editing. Learning about it, although challenging at times, has definitely been rewarding. Even if I’m not at the level to create a whole website myself, it is handy to have a know of the basics of it (being able to adjust and alter things especially on my tumblr theme is definitely a plus). It’s great to be able to understand the basics.
Here are some links to posts that are on my blog:
Google Analytics -unfortunately when I changed my URL name and theme the analytics I had going deleted itself. Fear not I got it running again.
I think of these tools displayed here are so very important when you’re trying to connect in the blogosphere and get your ideas and thoughts to reach someone. They are also useful tools for discovering a wide range of information that is out there on the net. Plus these tools are a lot of fun to play around with!
